What is the Japanese art of wrapping items with cloth?
I’m sure my question sounds really ridiculous. Anyway, I saw a TV feature on a Japanese art in which people wrap various items like wine bottles (as gift wrapping) and bento boxes (as transportation).
I forgot to mention that this is done with colorful, ornate cloth, not just gift wrapping.
I think the term you’re looking for is “Furoshiki” which is the name of the cloth itself. It is usually square or folded to be a square and the 2 opposite corners are brought up over the item to be wrapped and tied together. Then the other 2 opposite corners are brought up and tied together over the other knot. This is handy to carry hot pots (without handles) such as rice pots, because you are holding the knots and not the hot pot itself.
