Bento Boxes For Kids
Is this safe to put in a bento?
Okee, so i was going to make my friend and I, bento boxes for when we work at camp invention this summer, Is it safe to put a hard-boiled egg that has food colouring on it in the bento? We will need to leave my house at about 8:45 (we are walking to the bentos will be in a shaded backpack somewhere;however the temperature around this time of year is about 80-97 degrees) and we will not eat till around 1:00, all of the buildings we will be taking the little kids to are air conditioned…so back to my question (in case you forgot…tee hee) Is it safe to put a hard-boiled egg that has food colouring on it in the bento?

I Hope this helps.Hard-boiled eggs are more susceptible to spoilage than fresh because the cooking process removes a naturally occurring waxy protective layer called the cuticle from their shells. The cuticle coats freshly laid eggs, and much of it is washed off when the eggs are graded and packed. When the eggs are boiled, the water removes the rest. This leaves open pores in the shells for bacteria to enter and contaminate the eggs more easily.Some urgent warnings for Easter egg hunters: Do not eat cracked hard-boiled eggs! You could keep then separate in a container surrounded by ice. So that they are kept chilled. Colored easter eggs must be eaten within two hours! And refrigerate your found eggs and eat them within seven days!
