Hello Kitty Jersey
If I used a Hello Kitty logo on the front of my softball teams jersey,do I need permisssion from the company
If I’m not selling the uniforms but just using the logo for 12 jerseys, am I breaking the law? I would not have hello kitty spelled on the jerseys but the name, HURRICANES.If this is a copyright infringement how do I get permission from this company ?
If I were you I would contact the company just to make sure… in a previous answer , Scully was kind enough to provide a phone number that will put you in touch with the company that owns the rights to the Hello Kitty franchise.
I’m thinking that it might depend on how you acquired the logos you plan on using.
If you went out and purchased 12 H.K. tops and are using those, you’ve already paid the company for the shirts. Also if you purchased the H.K. logos as patches or decals, and attached them to the jerseys, again, you’ve paid for the HK product.
But if you printed off a HK image from a web site without any compensation to the company, that might not sit well with them if they find out about it.
It seems to me that you should be allowed to wear HK shirts as long as you purchased everything that had a HK image on it.
Still though, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to contact the company anyway… they’ll know the right questions to ask you so that there will be no problems.
Chances are, they wouldn’t find out about it, but companies have been known to make trouble for people who misuse their trademarks.
Also, it’s highly unlikely you’d be sued right off the bat, even if the company objects to that use of HK… most likely you’d simply receive a written request from the company asking you to stop using their trademark in an inappropriate way (assuming they’d think this was inappropriate, which they probably wouldn’t).
