Hello Kitty Plushies Japan
What is this cultural phenomenon in Japan called?
I heard somewhere that in some parts of Japan, it is a popular fad for teenagers to carry around little plushies of Stitch, Doraemon, Totoro, Hello Kitty, or Pokemon and take them to school, carry them in their bags, etc. What is this fad called, and does anyone think it would catch on in the United States?
It’s a common teenage fad, especially characters from Sanrio and San-X or Disney. Even working adults have similar collectibles such as Iphone casings, phone straps and everyday items. We all like to personalize our belongings..more traditional folks carry good luck charms and small cat figurines that symbolize good luck/wealth.
