Japanese Kawaii Names
What are the characters for the Japanese family name Kawai?
And what does it mean?
and no I do not mean kawaii (im very well aware that means cute)
my boss is communicating with a business partner in Japan named Mr. Kawai but when I heard him say the name I nearly hit the floor laughing. he kept pronouncing it ‘kawaii’ instead of ‘kawai’ (stress on the ‘i’) so apparently he was calling the guy Mr. Cute the whold time xD but Kawai-san was too polite to correct him

It may be this 河井 (river + well (like a water well)), but other spellings are also possible, e.g. 河合 or 河居. So I would check out his business card.
