Why does everyone like anime so much?

I was just wondering what’s so special about anime? All my friends are completely obsessed with it and they’ve made me watch everything from Pokemon to Higurashi. I just can’t figure out what is so addictive about it. Everyone loves it, it’s all everyone ever draws (that seems to be the only art style anyone knows nowadays), nobody seems to be able to shut up about it and now kids are going around pretending they can speak Japanese. I don’t get it, I mean, it’s just cartoons.
I was just wondering what is it about anime that makes people so addicted? Why do some people treat it as a life style? You ever stop to consider that you may be pissing off a few Japanese people by making their culture and language a fashion trend?
Keep in mind that I’m not talking about people that sort of watch one or two anime shows. I’m talking about the hardcore obsessed cosplaying anime fans that scream “kawaii desu!” at everything. It would be nice if someone like that gave me an honest answer.

I like anime. If you ask me why then my answer is I just like it. Some people have likes and dislikes that you can’t understand. Why the hell does my sister likes justin bieber? Why the hell does she also reads twilight? Why does my brother like watching soccer? Isn’t it just people running around in a court chasing a ball?

And why do the japanese has to get pissed? They get their products sold all over the world. Indeed weeabos are annoying, but annoying peoples are not just weeabos right?
