Kawaii Plushies

Am I a Weeaboo or An Otaku?

Definition Of An Otaku: Someone who loves Anime/Manga/VideoGames/Etc.
Definition of a Weeaboo: Someone who Acts/Pretends Japanese.(correct me if I’m wrong..)

I am an Otaku (or consider myself to be i guess) I buy ALL of my Anime/Manga. Collect The Cards/Figures/Plushies/Etc..Would LOVE to Cosplay. I’m to poor to buy cosplay right now. I just need to get a job…So Am I an Otaku?

And for the Weeabo situation..

I say “Kawaii” (not alot) I purnounce it correctly (seen enough anime to know) and I’ve only said it when something is really cute or i’m trying to confuse my friends. Same with the word “Baka”. And it’s not just the Japanese Culture/Language. It’s also Spanish/Italian. And I’m not obsessed. I just find it interesting.

P.S: Don’t answer if you don’t know what a Weeaboo or An Otaku is. Kay??

You’re more likely a Weeaboo. Unless you have absolutely no developed social skills and never leave the house. A weeaboo can be a synonym for Wapanese or just be someone who’s a big fan of Japan/Japanese culture/anime/manga, etc. Otaku (roughly meaning honored house) is actually a negative term that’s often misused in America to refer to someone who is a huge fan of Japanese culture/anime/etc.

In reality, an otaku is beyond the world of fandom. They are someone who devotes all of their time to ANY overwhelming and unhealthy obsession that can be fulfilled entirely at home, thus allowing them to never actually need to go out to do anything but eat or shop. An otaku is also considered to have no social skills other than a basic ability to interact with people on message boards. Most tend to be hardcore nerds, hackers, or programmers.

The only positive side to the label is that they tend to be experts in their obsession. In your case, if you were an otaku, you’d probably be able to understand, speak, read, and write fluently in Japanese. You would also spend most of your money on importing anime, manga, and games in their non-translated forms. Possibly ripping anime, manga, and games into a digital format and sharing them or working in a subtitle/translation collaboration group online.
