Trains and Bus & transportation in Japan?

I’m planning to go to Japan this summer for the first time
&& I’m trying to go to many places form Narita Tokyo.
But I’ve read that taxi is very expansive and I want to go to places like Harajuku, Ueno Ameyoko, temples and Sanrio Purolandd.
Their in Tokyo but some are a pretty far distance.
So now I have to get bus information and train stuff?
Do you have to purchase the tickets before going to japan?
&&& Where??
How do I know which tickets to get for which?
How much are the tickets?
& Is there a time when buses and trains stop operating?

Because I’m not sure if you go far beyond Tokyo or keep staying around the city, I can’t recommend JR Rail pass but if you want to go to Osaka and/or Kyoto from Tokyo, it would be quite economical and time-saving to prepare it.

The cheapest way from the airport to Ueno would be using Keisei train(limited express with no additional fare, different from Keisei Liner) which costs Yen1000 and takes about 90 minutes. You have to go walk from the station to the hotel you stay or pick up a yellow cab.

The service daytime is quite frequent like every 20 minutes, I remember. JR Narita express trains have less frequent to go to Tokyo like every hour and it requires you additional surcharge if you don’t have JR Raill Pass. It costs Yen2940 and takes about 60 minutes. If you choose local JR train instead, it costs Yen1280 and takes about 100 minutes.

Airport limousine bus has merits as more frequent service and door to door in occasion of several limited hotels.

To Sanrio Puroland, you need to take Keio Line, different from JR from Shinjuku to Keio Tama Center station. It costs Yen330 and takes about 40 minutes and one switching train at Chofu using express train without any additional fare.

All tickets are easily sold at automatic ticket machine. Some of them provide with English announcement.
